RTHK's CIBS radio show "Green Hong Kong - Eco-friendly Living in a Big City"
Community Involvement Broadcasting Service 9th Quarter - Broadcast on RTHK's DAB31
Green Hong Kong was inspired by our love
and awe at Hong Kong’s amazing environment (corals! porcupines! pink
dolphins!). It’s an environment truly worth protecting, but sadly we’re a long
way from treating our environment with the respect it deserves and keeping it
in good shape. As humans, even though we live in a big
city, the environment will always be vital to our existence: we need air to
breathe, food to eat, and water to drink. This show explores our relationship
to our environment in a big city. It highlights some of Hong Kong’s spectacular
natural wonders, and showcases what organizations and individuals are doing at
the grassroots level to help foster our relationship to the environment.
We hope you’ll join and enjoy listening
about how we can make a greener Hong Kong!
KATHRYN DAVIES, Creator, Coordinator, and Host
KATHRYN DAVIES, Creator, Coordinator, and Host
Project Coordinator and Program Host,
Kathryn Davies, is currently a PhD student at the University of Hong Kong
studying music and language. She’s lived in Hong Kong for a few years now, and
instantly fell in love with the amazing nature.
In her second life, she would be a
landscape architect and urban planner, working to develop more sustainable
cities. For now, in her free time she loves kayaking and hiking, and,
obviously, making radio shows. She is also very lucky to currently be a
part-time English teacher with the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
FEI HUNG, Co-host and Researcher
Co-host and resident of planet Earth who's got a rather Martian brain. Born and bred in Hong Kong, Fei is a photography, traveling and hiking enthusiast outside the world of arts. As a native of Hong Kong, Fei is always discovering new hiking tracks as her home city never fails to enlighten her with the diverse variety of sceneries it has to offer. Very recently she has come up with the idea of becoming a wildlife photographer if one day she gets bored of the arts world - well, perhaps you'll see her chasing an elephant with a gigantic camera lens on the next animal documentary!
INGA CONTI-JERPE, Researcher and Co-host
Show Researcher and Co-host, Inga Conti-Jerpe, has been a life-long hiker, snorkeler, and a SCUBA diver since the age of 14. Inga has always been fascinated by nature, particularly marine life. Growing up in New Jersey, USA, Inga learned to appreciate the value of nature in an urban environment.
During her undergraduate and MPhil studies, Inga had the opportunity to conduct marine research in Puerto Rico, North Carolina, the Bahamas, and the Florida Keys where she spent ten days living underwater in the Aquarius Reef Base habitat. Currently, she is a PhD student at the University of Hong Kong where she studies the nutrient acquisition and trophic ecology of soft corals. When she is not working on her research, Inga enjoys spending her time exploring and photographing the wild parts of Hong Kong.
DANTE ARCHANGELI, Researcher
Dante grew up in Pittsburgh, USA, during its urban and clean air
renaissance. Now living in Hong Kong, he hopes for a renaissance here that will
solve the tensions between Hong Kong’s establishment and supporters of
environmental and electoral reforms.
He has faith in people and their ability to effect positive
change, so he advocates for sustainability.
Although he's an engineer and real estate developer, and likes to build
things, he thinks he looks forward to the day when there is less physical
stuff. He unequivocally hopes for a time when everyone is working together to
heal our air, water, and land.
